Choose materials to support the design
Leather selection affects the feel, weight, appearance and structure of a handbag. Bespokebag reviews material choices alongside the intended silhouette and construction. A supple shoulder bag and a structured top-handle design may need different thicknesses, reinforcement and finishing.

Identify the leather precisely
Our existing collection and workshop materials include full-grain cowhide, top-grain cowhide, calfskin, lambskin, suede and embossed leather. Availability and suitability are reviewed for each project. These names should describe the material selected for the actual bag, not imply that every product uses the same leather.
Crocodile-embossed cowhide is a patterned leather and should be distinguished from genuine crocodile skin. Where a project involves a different animal skin, the material identity and any relevant documentation requirements need their own review.
Look beyond the outer body
- Trim and handles: identify material, thickness and edge treatment.
- Lining: define the material, color, pockets and attachment.
- Hardware: specify function, appearance, finish and attachment points.
- Other materials: describe canvas, woven components or natural fibers separately.
The existing collection includes mixed-material and raffia designs as well as leather bags. The individual product description remains the reference for the composition of that design.
Use the sample to review the combination
Consider how the leather bends, how seams and edges finish, and how the completed bag holds its intended shape. Natural materials may show variation in grain and color. Discuss the expected appearance and any project-specific inspection requirements during prototype development.
See the workshop process for selection and cutting examples. For a brand enquiry, send your preferred materials together with the silhouette, quantity and destination. The team can review the specification before confirming price and timing.
